Baby born in Pennsylvania while still in amniotic sac

What a way to start life.

A baby boy was born while still in his amniotic sac in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

Raelin Scurry woke her fiance to drive her to a Pittsburgh hospital after what she thought were false labor pains turned into the real thing.

Before they arrived at the hospital, she gave birth to the boy still in the water-filled sac.

“I pulled my pants off and reached down, sure enough his head was right there,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I pushed one time and my miracle baby was here. When I looked down I realized he was still completely wrapped in the amniotic sac.”

The protective sac generally bursts in the earlier stages of labor, most often referred to as a pregnant woman’s “water breaking.”

Raelin Scurry and Ean Vanstory named their newborn son “E.J.”

“At first he was very still, and I went to his face like this through the sac,” Scurry told local TV station KDKA. “And he pulled his hands and his feet up and covered his face in the sac. And I was like, ‘He’s OK.'”

Doctors broke the sac when she arrived at the hospital, and the baby started crying immediately.

Scurry and Ean Vanstory named the baby “E.J.” after the newborn’s paternal grandfather. The boy was born 11 weeks early, and was placed on oxygen and is doing well.

“He’s been doing better than they expected him to be doing, with him being born so early. He’ll be home before we know it,” Scurry told KDKA.
