Rangers’ Mika Zibanejad diagnosed with concussion

The Rangers’ top center Mika Zibanejad has a concussion, the team said Thursday.

Zibanejad was a late scratch before Tuesday’s game against the Panthers, taking the ice for warmup. David Desharnais was told around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to be ready for warmup after Desharnais was originally going to be a healthy scratch.

The 24-year-old Zibanejad leads the Rangers with 11 goals and 22 points.

Desharnais remained in Zibanejad’s spot during Thursday’s practice between Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich.

Ryan McDonagh (ab strain) is participating in his first full practice since last playing on Nov. 19, paired with Nick Holden while Brendan Smith is with Marc Staal. If McDonagh comes through practice fine he could return for Friday’s game against Carolina.

The Rangers made a minor-league trade, sending winger Adam Cracknell to Montreal for center Peter Holland. The Rangers claimed Cracknell off waivers from Dallas earlier this season.
